Siena
Timeless art and beauty
Siena, located in the heart of Tuscany, is one of the best-known medieval cities in Italy. In fact, the precious historical center is a World Heritage Site thanks to the numerous Renaissance palaces, alleys, and peculiar quarters, as well as the Contrade and the famous Piazza del Campo, which constitute a historical, artistic and landscape heritage of inestimable value.
The central square is world-famous for its characteristic shell shape, but especially for being the meeting place of one of the city's most beloved and heartfelt events, the famous Palio di Siena: a historical event, dating back to the 17th century, that takes place on 2 July and 16 August.
Fascinating for its numerous romantic-Gothic details and the presence of magnificent works, the Cathedral of Siena is shown in all its splendor from mid-August until the end of October, when the precious floor is uncovered to the public who can finally admire its beauty.
Other splendid towns in the Siena area attract the fascination of the general public for their enchantment and historical value: these include San Gimignano, Montepulciano, and Monteriggioni.
This and much more make Siena a city not to be missed during a visit to Tuscany.
